The BhaktiSeva Shawls Company
BhaktiSeva (selfless service from the heart) was created in 2010 to raise funds for the Maa Chetan Jyoti Music School in Rishikesh, India. Funds are raised by selling products imported from India. The profits go directly to support the school.
The school, originally named Plaza Music Academy, was founded by Swami Maa Chetan Jyoti in October 2005, on the rooftop of her ashram by the banks of Mother Ganga facing the Himalayan Mountains outside the Holy city of Rishikesh.
Maa Chetan’s goal was to develop the musical potential in local empoverished children. The children’s orchestra for classical Indian music – heretofore unheard of in India – was entirely her creation and love offering. She sought donations for instruments, offered free lessons and engaged her accompanist, friend and fellow world musician, Shivananda, seen here, as their teacher and director.

A note from Krishnabai
This little business started in 2010 as a way to support my friend, Shivananda Sharma, the school’s head teacher, in his efforts to keep the music school going after the death of its founder, Ma Chetan Jyoti. It has blossomed into more than I could ever have expected. It has been a lovely balance to my career as a private practice psychotherapist and has taken me places I could never have guessed.
Both Shivananda and I are grateful for the support of the school and we hope you will enjoy the gifts of culture and beauty inherent in these items.
Thank you for your support of the school!
